RABBIT HOLE

Location

Esker Arts, High Street, Tullamore, Offaly, R35 NY50, Ireland

This Autumn, Tullamore Amateur Dramatic Society (TADS) is delighted to stage David Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Rabbit Hole.

In this ‘simmering pot’ of drama, the repercussions of a fatal accident on a suburban family are explored. The play plumbs the depths of life and loss, isolation and uneasiness, holding on and moving on. Becca and Howie are forced to navigate life after their five-year old son, Danny, is killed in a tragic accident. His lingering presence in the house causes them both to struggle with their loss as they each hold diverse perspectives on what grief looks like, which, in turn, begs the question as to whether there is an appropriate way to grieve? Should they sell up and move away from the sad memories – as Becca wants to do – or stay in an effort to process the loss and hold onto the memories – as Howie wishes. Rabbit Hole offers a compelling and deeply humane exploration of grief and its emotional complexities. Rather than sensationalising the hardship of grieving, the play invites empathy through its focus on the ordinariness of being confronted with everyday life when coping with loss.
